Spreading Hope, One Step at a Time
For over 20 years, Shana has dedicated her life to her work as a full-time home health aide and to raising her two children as a single mother.
Navigating the challenges of single parenthood can feel isolating, a reality Shana knows all too well. “Being a single parent is hard. You don’t have help. … You have the resources, but sometimes it’s even hard to get the resources,” she shares.
Her journey hasn’t been easy, but for years, she’s found a helping hand at Freestore Foodbank.
“Freestore [doesn’t] only help with food, they actually help with houses. They help you get jobs. If you have any mental health problems, they [have] somebody there for you to talk to. They help with household supplies,” Shana says.
Often, Shana’s first thought is of others. She visits Bea Taylor Market about twice a month, not just for her own needs, but to make sure she can also support her neighbors.
“I come probably once a month if I need it, but if I can help somebody else with it, I come and get it and pass it on to the next person,” she says.
Shana’s story is a powerful reminder that generosity creates a ripple effect that strengthens the entire community.
When asked what she would say to kind friends like you who support Freestore Foodbank, Shana says, “I would let them know that they are greatly appreciated. They really are greatly appreciated.”
Your contributions provide not just meals, but also hope, stability and the chance for families like Shana’s to build a brighter future.
