Giving Fields Maintenance and Volunteer Coordinator
AmeriCorps Kentucky Service Corps Position

Location: 921 Burns Ave, Melbourne, KY 41059
Duration: June 1-August 31, 2012
Time Commitment: 35 hours/week
Schedule: Flexible

Essential Functions: Mowing, trimming, planting, harvesting, cleaning food collection bins, field preparation for volunteer workers, maintaining farm equipment through general upkeep, maintain organization of the equipment trailer and equipment storage garages, track fertilizing, watering, and spraying schedule and application, track volunteer participation, provide safe food handling orientation and overall orientation for volunteers, maintain volunteer records, oversee harvesting and planting techniques.

Minimum Qualifications: Ability and enthusiasm for completion of manual tasks assigned, ability to work independently and as part of a team, attention to detailed record keeping, team leadership and delegation skills, basic skills in MS Excel and Word, ability to learn web-based volunteer software. Basic gardening and/or farming knowledge preferred.

Requirements: Minimum age 18 years old. High school graduate or GED. Must either be a student enrolled in a Kentucky educational institution or a full-time Kentucky resident if not enrolled in school. Professional Volunteer Application. BCI Background check (provided by FSFB), AmeriCorps enrollment documents.

Compensation: $1000 stipend and end-of-term AmeriCorps education award of $1415.34.

Work Environment: Outdoor farm – including stooping, kneeling, standing, bending, lifting of up to 40 pounds, use of farm/garden maintenance equipment, working on uneven and sometimes muddy ground
