Corporate Volunteer Groups: 84.51

All across the agency, staff and volunteers are preparing for the Rubber Duck Regatta. On Sunday, September 3, 2017 over 170,000 rubber ducks will be dumped into the Ohio River, hopefully raising over a million dollars to help provide food and services to our neighbors in need. Preparations for the regatta begin weeks in advance. Before the race, ducks are shipped in from all over the country. Each duck comes with a tag which is removed and replaced with another tag, before getting loaded into a huge truck that will carry it to the river. This is one of the most important steps in getting the ducks ready to race and will take place two weeks prior to the event at the Mayerson Distribution Center. As you can imagine, it takes many, many volunteers to accomplish this in a short period of time.

For the past many years, 84.51 has taken on the challenge to help the Freestore pluck and tag ducks prior to the Rubber Duck Regatta. This year, 84.51 has committed to volunteering in 6 out of the 10 shifts needed to get our ducks ready for the big day. Thanks to their commitment and to others in our community, we know this huge task will be accomplished!

Corporate Volunteer Groups: 84.51Jayme Ponder and Lauren Littlejohn, who are both 84.51 employees have been working diligently to organize their team to assist not only with “Duck Plucking and Tagging” but also with other activities across the agency. “84.51 believes in helping the community and therefore allows their employees to explore their passions. As a result many of our employees have had the chance to make an impact,” Jayme comments. Helping the Freestore Foodbank has been a passion for Jayme and Lauren for many years and they love the opportunity to rally others around the mission of providing food and services. Over 325 84.51 employees have shared their passion with us just this year and have donated over 1,000 hours towards preparing ducks and packing Power Packs and Holiday Boxes. They’ve also sent groups to the Giving Fields to aid in planting, harvesting and weeding at the farm. “Volunteering is super important to me because it gives me a chance to see that I can make a difference. I know that the boxes of food packed as well as the produce harvested at the farm will be used or consumed almost immediately after we have volunteered.” Both Jayme and Lauren believe that that is why employees love to volunteer. They know their work makes a difference.

The Freestore Foodbank is grateful to the 84.51 employees who make an impact each time they volunteer. Together, we can solve hunger!
