National Volunteer Week, April 10 – 16
Together, We Can Solve Hunger!

thankyouIn April, the Freestore Foodbank along with other agencies across the nation will celebrate National Volunteer Week, April 10-16, 2016. During this week, we will honor those who inspire, recognize and encourage others to seek out imaginative ways to engage in our community. National Volunteer Week is about taking action and encouraging individuals and their respective communities to be at the center of social change – discovering and demonstrating their collective power to make a difference. We want to take this opportunity to thank all of over 11,800 volunteers who are making a difference in our 20 counties that we serve and in the lives of our hungry neighbors. Thank you!

Join Us for the 13th Annual Hunger Walk & 5K Run

We are now recruiting volunteers for the Hunger Walk & 5K Run taking place on Monday, May 30 at The Banks. Volunteer opportunities are available all Memorial Day Weekend long, in addition to the day of the event. Click here to view Hunger Walk & 5K Run volunteer opportunities. This is your chance to view tasks that will help us “run the 5K,” as well as an opportunity to sign up online to volunteer. Want to walk or run in the Hunger Walk & 5K Run or donate to a team? Click here for more information.

All proceeds support the Freestore Foodbank’s network of 450 partner food pantries, soup kitchens, shelters and community centers. Through this network, we are able to provide over 27 million meals each year to hungry children and families in 20 counties in Southwest Ohio, Southeast Indiana and Northern Kentucky. One step at a time, one dollar at a time, together we can solve hunger.

It’s time to plant produce!

Now that the snow has melted and temperatures are rising, we would like to take this opportunity to thank you for supporting the work of the Giving Fields in 2015 and invite everyone to join us for the 2016 growing season.  Last year, with the support of our volunteers, we were able to provide enough produce to complete 117,000 meals to some of our Northern Kentucky community partner agencies. On the farm, you’re never too young or too old to work in the dirt and help make a difference in the lives of our neighbors. Your hands and hearts make this farm possible and we are grateful for all that you do. Click Here for more information and available scheduling dates.

Ride and Help Solve Hunger – Hogs vs. Hunger

Get ready to rev up your engines for the Sixth Annual Hogs vs. Hunger ride presented by Belterra Casino Resort, Belterra Park Gaming & Entertainment Center and the Pinnacle Foundation. Kickstands up at noon on Saturday, July 9 at the Thoroughbred Harley-Davidson in Florence. Stay tuned for more information. We are also looking for volunteers to help sale raffle tickets for a really cool prize that we will announce soon.  I want to volunteer to check out the locations, dates and times. All proceeds from Hogs vs. Hunger will support the services provided at our Customer Connection Center.

Feeding Children during the Summer Months

Are you looking for a group volunteer activity for your team during the summer? Come spend time with us at our Mayerson Distribution Center to assemble food boxes for children in our rural communities. These food boxes will ensure they have nutritious meals during the summer months when they are away from school. Complete a Group Request form today to schedule your group.

Ongoing Volunteer Opportunities

Check out the volunteer registration and information page to learn how to sign up to volunteer for our ongoing group and individual volunteer opportunities at the Mayerson Distribution Center, Customer Connection Center’s Liberty Street Market, and Giving Fields.
