IRA Charitable Rollover

For individuals age 70 ½ or older, the IRA Charitable Rollover is a tax-wise way to support Freestore Foodbank. If you are required to make annual withdrawals from an IRA account, these otherwise taxable distributions can satisfy your annual Required Minimum Distribution (RMD) and exclude these funds from your taxable income.

Each year, you (and your spouse) can transfer as much as $100,000 to Freestore Foodbank for a purpose that you choose.

What are the benefits?

  • Transfer tax-free gifts from your IRA directly to Freestore Foodbank
  • Can be applied toward your annual Required Minimum Distribution (RMD)
  • Beneficial for individuals who do not itemize deductions on their income tax
  • Withdrawals not subject to annual charitable deduction limitations

How an IRA charitable rollover gift works

  1. Contact your IRA plan administrator to make a gift from your IRA to us. For a sample transfer request form click here.
  2. Your IRA funds will be directly transferred to the Freestore Foodbank to help continue our important work.
  3. Please note that IRA charitable rollover gifts do not qualify for a charitable deduction.
  4. Please contact Mindy Hammer, mhammer@freestorefoodbank.org  if you wish for your gift to be used for a specific purpose.

Double Your Impact with a Corporate Matching Gift

Corporate Matching Gift Programs Can Double Your Impact

Thousands of companies locally and nationally match their employee’s contributions to tax-exempt organizations, usually at a one-to-one match but sometimes as high as three-to-one. Some companies also have volunteer matches, providing a donation for each hour their employees volunteer with a charitable organization.

These programs offer individuals a wonderful opportunity to double, or even quadruple, the impact of their contribution. Unfortunately, many individuals are unaware their employer matches gifts or volunteer hours; each year 90% of donations eligible for these programs go unmatched.

To see if your donation to Freestore Foodbank is eligible for a matching gift from your employer, contact your human resources department or contact Freestore Foodbank’s Grants Officer, Julie Carpenter at 513-482-7097.

In our 2016-2017 fiscal year, Freestore Foodbank received $170,000 in matching gifts from over 70 companies, including Ameriprise, Duke Energy, GE, Johnson & Johnson, Liberty Mutual, Macy’s, The Standard and Von Lehman. We are so grateful to all the companies offering this generous benefit, and for their employees and retirees who choose to donate to Freestore Foodbank and request corporate matching gifts.
