The Volunteer Connection
A very warm THANK YOU to the twenty-five eBay employees from the Northern Kentucky Distribution office who helped pack several hundred produce bags in our Food Room located at the Customer Connection Center at 112 E. Liberty Street. Their assistance was vital to kicking off a huge effort to provide meals to the community for the holiday season. We are greatly appreciative of their efforts!
Meet Our New Director of Volunteer Engagement!
Stephanie Togneri is the newest member of the Human Resources and Volunteer Management Department. Stephanie is the new Director of Volunteer Engagement, and will oversee our daily volunteer program and initiatives. Stephanie previously worked as the Volunteer Program Manager at the Cincinnati Association for the Blind.
In her new role with the Freestore Foodbank, she will work on all engagement efforts that include volunteer outreach, partnerships, recruitment and retention for the program. Stephanie will work with the Freestore Foodbank team to ensure that the Freestore Foodbank is a volunteer place of choice in the area for individuals and groups who which to serve in this capacity.

Volunteers Made It Happen: Holiday Ops Wrap-Up
Thanks to the exceptional support of our awesome volunteers and staff we were able to provide food for a holiday meal to nearly 9,000 families during our Thanksgiving Holiday Operations. Approximately 800 volunteers contributed over 2,500 hours of their time in making this event a huge success. WE THANK YOU! There are still slots available for the Christmas Operations scheduled on Monday, December 22 and Tuesday, December 23.
Christmas Holiday Ops – This event will take place at our Customer Connection Center located at 112 E. Liberty Street; Cincinnati, OH 45202. Reserve your slots now to volunteer at our Christmas Operations; individuals and groups of up to 30 can register to volunteer (must be at least 10 years of age and accompanied by an adult to volunteer at this event). Dates and shift times are:
Monday, December 22 and Tuesday, December 23
(1st shift: 7:15a-10:30a; 2nd shift: 10a-1p; 3rd shift: 12:30p-3:30p; Last Shift: 3p-6p).
Annual Meeting & Distinguished Speaker Series – Located at our Mayerson Distribution Center; 1250 Tennessee Ave; 45229. Volunteers are needed for event setup on Monday, January 5, 2015 from 11:30a.m. – 4:00 p.m. and Day of Event Support on Tuesday, January 6, 2015 beginning at 3:00p.m. – 8:00 p.m. Various tasks will be assigned from Parking Attendants, Coat Check, and Event Break Down.
MLK National Day of Service – Located at Fountain Square at 12:30 p.m. on Monday, January 19. Up to 40 volunteers are needed to help assemble 1000 Power Packs on Fountain Square.
Student Nights – Located at our Mayerson Distribution Center; 1250 Tennessee Ave; 45229. This event is specific for students 16 years of age and up who are in need of service hours. Eight volunteer sessions are scheduled beginning in January – April on the last two Thursdays of the month from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. except in March and April.

Mayerson Distribution Center
Located at 1250 Tennessee Ave, 45229. Groups of 10-30 can schedule to volunteer Tuesday-Saturday; shift times (9am-noon or 1pm-4pm). Projects include food sorting/scanning, assembly of food boxes such as senior boxes (additional groceries given to our older adult customers ages 60+), special event projects such as Holiday Ops Food Boxes,Duck Tagging/Plucking. Volunteers must be at least 13 years of age with parental consent and accompanied by an adult. Located at 112 E. Liberty, 45202. Individuals or groups of ten or less can schedule a time to volunteer; the hours of operation are Monday-Friday from 8am-4pm. Volunteers are required to commit to at least two or more hours at this location during the hours of operation. Projects include food sorting, restocking shelves with groceries and assisting customers with their groceries outside of the building and loading groceries in their vehicle in front of the building. Be on the lookout for more information to schedule individual and group opportunities at the Giving Fields! The Giving Fields is our community farm located at 101 Anderson Ave in Melbourne, KY. We plant, maintain and harvest fresh produce for our member agencies in Northern Kentucky which provide emergency food to the families in their network. A great opportunity for families, volunteers can be as young as 5 years of age.

A New Initiative: FeedingWorks-Transformational Teambuilding
The Freestore Foodbank has launched a new social enterprise. FeedingWorks is geared towards work groups that need to strengthen their teams.
Highlights of the program:
- 3-4 hour high energy session
- Teams work together to make an immediate difference on hunger in Greater Cincinnati
- The session will help to provide insight on how the team is working together more effectively;
including strengths and blind spots
- Improve communication, encouragement and conflict management skills
- Customized to meet your team’s specific needs
- Combines leadership and team development
- Furthers the mission of Freestore Foodbank by feeding hungry children in the community
