Event Wrap-Up: 20th Annual Rubber Duck Regatta
We would like to thank all of our volunteers who helped to make the 20th Annual Rubber Duck Regatta a huge success. We appreciate your support of the Check-Out Duck campaign, Weekend Kroger Duck Sales, and all things Rubber Duck Regatta. We wouldn’t be able to continue our fight against hunger without YOU! Giving Fields (season ends October 31)- Group and individual opportunities available. The community farm is located in Melbourne, Kentucky – about 15 minutes from downtown Cincinnati. Children must be at least five-years-old to volunteer and parental consent is needed for anyone under the age of 18; minors under the age of 16-years-old must be accompanied by an adult. Volunteer activities include planting, harvesting, weeding and other maintenance of the farm. Groups can be as small as five people and as large as 50. Scheduling is Tuesday-Friday 9 am-4 pm (all day), 9am-noon, or 1pm-4pm and Saturdays, 9 am-noon (only). Inclement Weather, Giving Fields:
If an individual or group is scheduled to volunteer at the Giving Fields and we experience inclement weather, please call our volunteer line at 513-482-7550 for updates on potential cancellations or delays. Team Leaders will also be notified by the farm manager, Molly Jordan. Safety is a top priority for our volunteers.
Mayerson Distribution Center (ongoing) – Located at 1250 Tennessee Ave, 45229. Groups of 10-30 can schedule to volunteer Tuesday-Saturday; shift times (9am-noon or 1pm-4pm) we also offer a 5pm-8pm shift Tuesday- Thursday provided a morning shift isn’t already scheduled that day. Projects include food sorting/scanning, assembly of food boxes such as senior boxes (additional groceries given to our older adult customers ages 60+), holiday boxes (distributed at the Customer Connection Center during the Holiday Ops Event) or special event projects such as Duck Tagging/Plucking (usually completed 2-3 weeks before the Rubber Duck Regatta event). Food Room (ongoing) – Located at 112 E. Liberty, 45202. Individuals or groups of six or less can schedule a time to volunteer; the hours of operation are Monday-Friday from 8am-4pm. Volunteers are required to commit to at least two or more hours at this location during the hours of operation. Projects include food sorting, restocking shelves with groceries and assisting customers with their groceries outside of the building and loading groceries in their vehicle in front of the building. Gran Fondo (Sunday, September 21)
We are currently recruiting 8 volunteers to assist with rider check-in for the Gran Fondo. Volunteers are needed from 6:00 a.m.to 8:00 a.m. Sunday, September 21 at the Cincinnati Bike Center at Smale Riverfront Park. The timed ride benefits the Freestore Foodbank.
Hogs vs. Hunger: Biker Nights (Ongoing)
We are currently recruiting 4-10 volunteers to assist at Biker Nights on Wednesday and Thursday evenings between the hours of 5pm-9pm (can be split into 2 hour shifts) at three Quaker Steak and Lube locations in Cincinnati and Kentucky – Milford (Wednesdays; 5p-9p); Colerain(Thursdays; 5p-9p) and Florence, KY(Thursdays; 6p-9p). There will be a raffle for three Harley Davidsons (one at each location) in mid-October.
Coats and Cans Food Drive
We will begin our annual collection of coats in preparation of Coat Day at the Customer Connection Center scheduled for sometime during November. We will collect new and gently used coats, hats, scarves, and gloves for all ages beginning now until the end of the year as well as canned and non-perishable foods. 6th Annual Zombie Walk
Are you ready for Zombies to walk through downtown? The 6th Annual Zombie Walk will take place on Saturday, September 27 from 7-10p. The walk will begin at our Central Parkway office located at 1141 Central Parkway; Cincinnati, OH 45202 and end at Fountain Square. We are recruiting 4-6 volunteers to help collect canned and non-perishable foods; clothing and monetary donations from participants (Zombies) before and after the walk.
Double Your Dollar$ Day
Held in November at our Mayerson Distribution Center. We are seeking volunteers to assist with taking donation calls during our phone-a-thon. Various shifts are available. Stay tuned for more information.
Holiday Food Box Assembly
There are still a few slots available for groups of 10-30 to sign up to assemble food boxes in preparation of our Thanksgiving and Christmas Operations at our Mayerson Distribution Center. Available shift times vary; slots are filling up fast!
Thanksgiving and Holiday Operations
This event will take place at our Customer Connection Center located at 112 E. Liberty Street Cincinnati, OH 45202. Reserve your slots now to volunteer at our Thanksgiving and Christmas Operations; individuals and groups up to 30 can register to volunteer. Due to new hours of operation for both events the shift times have changed to the following:
Monday, Nov. 24 and Tuesday, Nov. 25 (1st shift: 7:15a-10:30a; 2nd shift: 10a-1p; 3rd shift: 12:30p-3:30p;
Last Shift: 3p-6p)
Wednesday, Nov. 26 (1st shift: 7:15a-10:30a; 2nd shift: 10a-12:30p)
Monday, December 22 and Tuesday, December 23 (1st shift: 7:15a-10:30a; 2nd shift: 10a-1p; 3rd shift: 12:30p-3:30p; Last Shift: 3p-6p).
Be on the lookout for more information on how you can adopt a family during the Christmas Season. Volunteers are needed to purchase items and toys for families who participate in our programs. We’ll also need volunteers to help wrap gifts as they are delivered to the Customer Connection Center the 2nd and 3rd week of December.
Donations of canned goods are needed year-round. If you
would like to organize a canned food drive, please contact Bob Barnes at 513-482-4517.

A New Initiative: FeedingWorks-Transformational Teambuilding
The Freestore Foodbank has launched a new social enterprise. FeedingWorks is geared towards work groups that need to strengthen their teams.
Highlights of the program:

- Teams work together to make an immediate difference on hunger in Greater Cincinnati
- The session will help to provide insight on how the team is working together more effectively;
