Coat-Drive

Gearing up for the Holidays:  Upcoming Events

Coats and Cans Food Drive:
We are now collecting new and gently used coats, hats, scarves, and gloves for all ages beginning now until the end of the year; as well as canned and non-perishable foods. Coat Day will be on November 12 from 8am-3pm at the Customer Connection Center. Volunteers are needed from November 1-November 8 to sort and steam coats the week before Coat Day. Double Your Dollar$:
Held on Thursday, November 13th at our Mayerson Distribution Center. We are seeking volunteers to assist with taking donation calls during our phone-a-thon. Various shifts are available. Be on the lookout for more information to come.

 

Holiday OpsThanksgiving and Holiday Operations
This event will take place at our Customer Connection Center  located at 112 E. Liberty Street; Cincinnati, OH 45202. Reserve your slots now to volunteer at our Thanksgiving and Holiday Operations; individuals and groups up to 30 can register to volunteer. Due to new hours of operation for both events the shift times have changed to the following:  

Thanksgiving Ops
Monday, Nov. 24 and Tuesday, Nov. 25

(1st shift: 7:15a-10:30a; 2nd shift: 10a-1p; 3rd shift: 12:30p-3:30p; Last Shift: 3p-6p)
Wednesday, Nov. 26 (1st shift: 7:15a-10:30a; 2nd shift: 10a-12:30p)

Holiday Ops
Monday, December 22 and Tuesday, December 23

(1st shift: 7:15a-10:30a; 2nd shift: 10a-1p; 3rd shift: 12:30p-3:30p; Last Shift: 3p-6p).

Be on the lookout for more information on how you can adopt a family during the Holiday Season. Donors are needed to purchase items and toys for families who participate in our programs. We’ll also need volunteers to help wrap gifts as they are delivered to the Customer Connection Center the 2nd and 3rd week of December.

 

Adopt-A-Family Volunteer Project Manager and/or Committee
(Position Description)
Each year during the holidays, the Freestore Foodbank identifies families in need from the Direct Rent, Protective Payee, and Shelter Diversion programs and works with them to identify a holiday wish list. The Project Manager and/or designated person on the committee will work with various donors, both internal and external, to adopt these families and secure donated items to fulfill each family’s wish list. Duties include the following:

  • Receive and respond to donor inquiries via phone and email
  • Process donations to ensure proper cataloguing and storage during the busiest three day period when gifts are dropped off and stored
  • Complete necessary data entry to document family adoption and donation receipt and distribution

This position is based out of the Freestore Foodbank’s Customer Connection Center, located at 112 East Liberty Street. The volunteer(s) should possess excellent organization skills and be familiar with Excel for data entry purposes.

 

Volunteer Opportunities 9.25.2014

Mayerson Distribution Center (ongoing)
Located at 1250 Tennessee Ave, 45229. Groups of 10-30 can schedule to volunteer Tuesday-Saturday; shift times (9am-noon or 1pm-4pm) we also offer a 5pm-8pm shift Tuesday- Thursday provided a morning shift isn’t already scheduled that day. Projects include food sorting/scanning, assembly of food boxes such as senior boxes (additional groceries given to our older adult customers ages 60+), holiday boxes (distributed at the Customer Connection Center during the Holiday Ops Event) or special event projects such as Duck Tagging/Plucking (usually completed 2-3 weeks before the Rubber Duck Regatta event). Volunteers must be at least 13 years of age with parental consent. For more information and/or to schedule, please contact Tawanda Rollins at trollins@freestorefoodbank.org or (513)482-7557.

Food Room (ongoing)
Located at 112 E. Liberty, 45202. Individuals or groups of six or less can schedule a time to volunteer; the hours of operation are Monday-Friday from 8am-4pm. Volunteers are required to commit to at least two or more hours at this location during the hours of operation. Projects include food sorting, restocking shelves with groceries and assisting customers with their groceries outside of the building and loading groceries in their vehicle in front of the building. Feeding-Works

A New Initiative: FeedingWorks-Transformational Teambuilding
The Freestore Foodbank has launched a new social enterprise. FeedingWorks is geared towards work groups that need to strengthen their teams.

Highlights of the program:

  • 3-4 hour high energy session
  • Teams work together to make an immediate difference on hunger in Greater Cincinnati
  • The session will help to provide insight on how the team is working together more effectively;
    including strengths and blind spots
  • Improve communication, encouragement and conflict management skills
  • Customized to meet your team’s specific needs
  • Combines leadership and team development
  • Furthers the mission of Freestore Foodbank by feeding hungry children in the community
