Our late board member Bob Edwards built a legacy of feeding children in our community through his tireless advocacy and fundraising through the Freestore Foodbank Rubber Duck Regatta. He started the Duck Regatta in 1995 and grew it into a million dollar event. His passion and commitment over the course of two decades helped the event to generate 25 million meals for hungry children in the Tri-State area.

In December 2014, we launched the Bob Edwards Feed A Child Fund to honor Bob’s bob_logomemory and continue his legacy. With the intent to utilize gifts to the Bob Edwards Feed a Child Fund for new childhood hunger programs, we are currently exploring options that incorporate the “make it happen” spirit that Bob brought to the Freestore Foodbank. One of these options would include utilizing a grant from the fund to allow the Freestore Foodbank to collaborate with providers on an adaptation of our Power Pack program in six preschool classrooms across the region. Children ages 3-5 would benefit.

To date, the Bob Edwards Feed A Child Fund stands at nearly $300,000 with matching gifts from the Freestore Foodbank Foundation. Bob’s beloved wife, Sylvia, has a special message to share with everyone who has contributed:
